Distracted Driving

  Distraction.Gov is a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) website with information on Distracted Driving. Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in while operating a motor vehicle. Such activities have the potential to distract the person from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing.

  Teens and Distracted Driving According to the Pew Research Center, "One in four (26%) of American teens of driving age say they have texted while driving, and half (48%) of all teens ages 12 to 17 say they’ve been a passenger while a driver has texted behind the wheel."

  Drive In Control offers advanced driver training for teens and helps educate teens about the risks of distracted driving.

  Safe Roads Alliance provides educational services to all drivers on different aspects of driving safety, including: issues confronting elderly drivers, maintaining a vehicle for safe operation, child restraint systems, seat belt usage, reduc-ing driving distractions, and driver courtesy and reduction of road-rage.

Prevention Methods - Non-smoking Organization represents the 84% of teens in Massachusetts who choose not to use tobacco. This website seeks teen involvement in a statewide non-smoking campaign. Some teens are outspoken about Big Tobacco's deadly products. Some teens want their parents and friends to quit. Some teens aren't trying to make a statement by not smoking; they're too busy doing other things that make them part of the 84.

  NIDA - Publications - Marijuana: Facts for Teens

The National Institute on Drug Abuse's mission is to lead the nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug abuse and addiction. Topics include smoking, marijuana, steroids and club drugs.

  Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

SADD is dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide.

The National Mental Health Association (NMHA) is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of mental health and mental illness. Website includes information regarding Children's Mental Health Matters and Fact Sheets on topics ranging from depression to eating disorders to family health.

  Needham's Coalition for Suicide Prevention was established as a community response to the deaths by suicide of four young people over an eighteen-month period. Needham's Coalition believes that suicide is preventable if we work together.
