Parent Forum:
Adolescent Depression & Anxiety

Please join us for a Parent Forum on Adolescent Depression and Anxiety. Panelists will be: Deborah Garfield, Director of Clinical Services at The Eliot Center in Concord, Cindy Sweeney-Adamchek, a school psychologist from Acton-Boxborough High School, parent who will share the experience of getting help for her depressed teenager.

Topics presented by the panel members will be: signs and symptoms of these adolescent depression and anxiety, the difference between normal teenage “angst” and clinical depression, how these would present in school, how the school can help, how family life might be impacted, when outside treatment is needed.

Following the panel presentations there will be an opportunity for interaction between the panel members and audience. This forum is sponsored by CAFY (Community Alliance for Youth) and NAMI (The National Alliance on Mental Illness). Co-sponsors are ABRPTSO (Acton-Boxborough Regional Parent Teacher Student Organization), the Acton-Boxborough Regional School System Assistant Superintendent Susan Horn, and ABCHY (Acton-Boxborough Coalition for Healthy Youth). Guiding Good Choices: Parenting Young Teens

Dates: Monday mornings: March 15, March 29, April 5, April 12 (snow date April 26) from 9:30–11:00 am
Location: St. Matthews Episcopal Church,
Central St., Acton
Course Fee: $40.00 includes workbook.
Presenter: Ms. Kathy Bowen, Certified Life Empowerment Coach and former Health Education Coordinator for the Concord-Carlisle Schools.
